One day, it happened. I found myself caught in the mire of life’s daily grind – living the grandest of illusions; meaning, enriching the lives of others, e.g., employers, religion, family and friends, even while I struggled to create momentum in my own life. I found myself waking up every day with the feeling of emptiness, with everything staring me in the face except passion, contentment and purpose. After years of gathering mere morsels from the smorgasbord of life, I finally got to the point where I was sick and tired of running on empty emotionally, physically, spiritually and socioeconomically.
You too might have been an avid participant of this grandest of illusions: waking up in the morning, showering, getting dressed, eating breakfast, going off to work or school…coming back home, maybe taking another shower, eating dinner, cuddling the TV’s remote control, or surfing the Internet, then going off to bed—only to wake up the next day and repeat the same thing all over again.
If you have ever felt this way, I want to let you know that your life does not have to continue on that road to nowhere. You do not have to spend the rest of your life in misery, unhappiness, and/or dysfunction…peering at other people’s success and happiness. Instead, you can create and shape your own reality and success under your terms and conditions. You can choose to fulfill your passions. So, how do you transition from where you are to where you’d like to be?
First, change your environment. Yes, that might mean leaving some family and friends behind. Secondly, absorb inspiration daily. Study the lives of successful people and find ways to integrate their methods and systems into your own experiences. One of my favorite books that addresses “how to” is, The Click Moment: Seizing Opportunity in an Unpredictable World by Frans Johansson. Another book that shows you how to transform your limitations into your greatest competitive advantage is The Power of Broke by Daymond John.
Thirdly, write out your dreams, passions and goals. Finally, once you have written down your goals, begin implementing them. If you do not know where to begin, then ask someone who is winning. Some of you might be saying, “I don’t know anyone who is winning.” Well, go out of your way and find those persons. Call them, email them…be persistent.
Remember, winning ultimately depends on one person believing and doing – and that’s YOU!
