Life Choices

So, You’ve Stepped Out of Your Comfort Zone. Now What…?

You have vacated the place you once called homeyour comfort zonefor a new experience that promises happiness, spontaneity and adventure. It took you some time to move from your place of comfort because in that space, which meant so much to you, you had everything you thought made you feel so peaceful and content, such as stability, security and access.

But every so often, you question whether or not you made the right decision to abandon a place where you were in control of eventsa place that was predictable and made you feel safefor a brand new world that offers no guarantees or promises over the long term. Even so, you have made up your mind never to return to that place of comfort because you are keenly aware of the possibilities and freedom that lie ahead.

Now that you have left your comfort zone, you are hoping that your courage will pay off in a significant way. You are anticipating that your new reality will give you boundless opportunities to take your life to the next level. You have a new found desire to learn more, achieve more and experience more than you ever have. You are also mindful of the risks that come with charting new territories and expanding the essence of your being.

For many individuals, leaving a familiar routine, i.e., comfort zone, is about the opportunity to choose between different paths that are headed in different directions. Escaping uniformity and monotony is another reason some people make a decision to leave their comfort zone. For others, leaving their comfort zone is almost exclusively about the emotional appeal that comes from taking new and intelligent risks.

So, you have stepped out of your comfort zone. Now what? What does this mean for your life? What do you hope will change about your reality? And what are the unintended consequences of leaving your comfort zone?

The answers to those questions and everything that happens as a result of charting a brand new course revolve around one source. That source is called choice.

The power of choice equips you with the ability to CREATE a world the way YOU want to experience it.

The power of choice unlocks your essence. That is, the power of choice enables you to live intentionally and focus on what truly matters in life such as self-love, self-care and self-compassion. As human beings, we often struggle to find personal meaning and fulfillment because rather than centering our thoughts on our own sense of worth, we focus on past failings, present struggles and the uncertainty of the future. But life was meant to be lived and celebrated. It is not enough simply to survivewe should thriveemotionally, physically, relationally and socioeconomically.

The power of choice also helps you to adapt and make adjustments. In a world defined by constant change, having the capacity to adapt and respond to changing situations and environments will give you the flexibility, perspective and competitive edge to remain professionally and socially relevant; meaning, consistently and continually creating experiences that add value to other people’s lives.

It is time to take flight. Give yourself permission to be bold. Give yourself permission to be powerful. Give yourself permission to be awe-inspiring!

  2. I love this post! Stepping out of the comfort zone and staying out of the comfort zone aren’t always easy but are so important to do in order to expand our horizons and live life to the full.. It’s taken me a long time to realise that I kept running back to the ‘not so comfortable’ comfort zone for far too long.. No more though! Great to meet you and thanks for following my blog! x

  3. I’m about to step out of my comfort zone and leave my job of 20 years as it no longer serves me and I no longer enjoy it. So in a couple of months I begin my new adventure…thanks for the encouraging words, they certainly help!! 🙂

    1. Jessica, you’re an intuitive individual! It has been a few years since I gave up living a contended existence. But to your point. I recently moved to LA to launch a multimillion dollar cosmetics startup.

      1. Wow! That’s very impressive, I hope it’s successful and that you come up with a red that’s the exact color of Botticelli’s Portrait of a Young Man. (I have yet to find it.) So very best of luck to you! In the meantime I’ll be over here being intuitive and writing about it 🙂
