Do You Expect To Win?

When you break down winning into its simplest form, it is really not that difficult to win in life. The difficulty often lies in trying to win at everything.

If you compare winners to those who are not winning, the one thing that is abundantly clear about winners is that they focus their effort and energy on a niche they love. Non-winners are scattered in their thinking, action and commitment.

Individuals with a winning mindset are committed to becoming the best version of themselves every day. If they are good at basketball, then they commit their entire reality to basketball. If they have a penchant for business enterprises, then they lock into business like a heat-seeking missile.

So, let me ask you a question. Are your expectations set to winning and experiencing life’s best? If you say yes, then what have you committed to, on a consistent basis—in the past six months, the past year, the past five years? Is there an idea, product, service or process that consumes you—something that affects you so strongly that you cannot think about doing anything else?

Business Acronym WIN as WHAT IS IMPORTANT NOWIf you say you expect to win but have not committed to a particular niche, then you are not being honest with yourself.

Think of success as a child. When you have a baby, you do everything in your power to nurture that child’s physical, affective, behavioral and cognitive development through the lifespan. Don’t you? Of course, this is what good parents do.

Well, when it comes to success, winners adopt a similar approach. That is, winners nurture their niche, which in turn allows them to hone their skill as it relates to that niche, leading to the success they had envisioned. Winners are focused on continuous improvement initiatives, which help them perfect their problem-solving skills.

Winners understand that the more effective they become at solving problems and serving others, the more value they create for themselves as the go-to authority in their fields.

Here are some key takeaways that could increase your odds of winning:

  • Target the niche you are passionate about.
  • Advance your knowledge in that area by committing to that idea on a consistent basis and over a long period of time.
  • Develop a system [a method of delivery] that enables you to use your niche to fulfill a need and provide a service to others.
  • Build your reputation as a brand expert in your field and very soon the market will validate your idea.

  1. Excellent post. I was struck by the truth you spoke, “winners…focus their effort and energy on the niche they love.” Thank you for an uplifting post.

  2. I can understand the need to cultivate brilliance with just one thing at a time, such as writing. But what if there are multi aspects of this one thing? Is this why so many of us are only second rate?
