Pause for a moment and carefully evaluate whether that step or course of action you are about to take will lead you toward or away from your grandest ambition.
Will taking that step challenge you to become more conscientious and compassionate? Will that step prepare and equip you to rise above obstacles and setbacks? After executing that step, in what ways will you be better for it? How will taking that step alter your legacy’s trajectory?
Does taking that step mean you have given it your all—100% effort and commitment? If you take that step, then are you willing to live with the resultant outcomes—positive or negative?
What would it mean to you to take that step and not experience the desired outcomes? Would you interpret the outcome(s) as a sign that you are on the right or wrong path? What if I told you none of the aforementioned really matters? And the only thing that matters is taking that next step toward becoming the best version of YOU.
Here is the takeaway.
Do not be intimidated by the next step. Because, win or lose, sunshine or rain, sickness or health, you are still responsible for you. Consider the following. The odds that you exist as a human being is one in four hundred quadrillion—that’s 400,000,000,000,000,000. You could have been born a dung beetle, rolling and eating poop for the duration of your practically insignificant existence. But you entered your physical form as a human being.
So whatever you do, take that next BIG step and be sure that you give it your all. The world will be a better place as a result.

I was talking about the “you could have been a dung beetle ” part of your post. I guess I should have mentioned that as well. Apologies.

Got it! 😄 As humans, we won the all-time universal lottery and for that reason, we should maximize life’s best opportunities in the lifetime of those opportunities.

Lao-Tau said the journey of 1000 miles begins with a single step but sometimes, we get so intimidated by the length of the trip that we forget to move.

Wise words Josiah. I was just writing something similar in my journal the other day, about taking action, any action so long as I move forward. Thanks for the nudge again.

Your comment about the odds of becoming a human is quite profound. I’m going to remember that for when things get a little tough.

I love this post. It mirrors where I am myself in life just now. I am just about to take a big leap of faith, and I can honestly say that though it will be a challenge, it will be a good experience from which I will learn an awful lot, and whatever the eventual outcome, it will indeed make me more conscientious and compassionate. Thank you for helping confirm in my mind I am taking a positive step forward to becoming the best version of me I can be 🙂
