Getting Started is NOT the Hardest Part

I once thought the hardest part of any successful initiative was getting started, but I no longer believe that’s the case. I would argue that one of the primary reasons people fail to catalyze their highest human potential is because their dream simply isn’t big enough. 

The reality is, BIG dreams are accompanied by the necessary supply of desire, discipline, and determination. The converse is also true, which is, the smaller one’s dream, the less desire and inclination that person will have to bring his or her vision for success to fruition.

You see, a worthy goal never enters one’s mind by itself. A sound idea always comes with the right amount of activation energy needed to get started and build momentum. What does this all mean? Well, I’m glad you asked.

If one is to experience unparalleled success, then a paradigm shift needs to occur. A paradigm is the accumulation of one’s thoughts, ideas, and experiences. The first step in experiencing a paradigm shift is to change your mental picture of success—which means replacing your small picture of success with a ridiculously impossible picture of success. If you can plot every step and outcome of your goal from the beginning to end, then your goal is too small. BIG goals can be scary and intimidating. But it is those very factors that will ignite the fire that will lead to a purposeful life. 

The second step in reframing your success paradigm is to hold a mental image of success in your mind. This means it could be years before you begin reaping the benefits of your success initiatives.  Success takes time to mature, and it comes with lots of sacrifices. That is, you must be willing to give up something in order to see your dream materialize into reality. You must be willing to adapt and iterate over and over and over. The pursuit of success will stretch you beyond the limits of your creative endurance. The sacrifices, however, will be worth it. 

The third step in reframing your success paradigm is to create value. Here’s what I mean. Whatever goal you choose to pursue, there must be an actionable and demonstrable objective that includes creating value for customers, team members, and potential investors. Creating value around your aspiration(s) is a critical success driver that will position you to penetrate existing and new markets. 

The bottom line is, if you want to experience big success, then you would do well to have audacious goals. There is no exception to this rule. Set yourself up to win by thinking outside the box and setting powerful goals. Go beyond what you are used to and live the phenomenal life you were meant to experience.

  1. Wow, did you write this for me today because it’s EXACTLY what I needed to hear. 🙂 I’m in the process of creating a 6/12/18 month action/goal setting list with regard to some training I’ve started and I’ve been struggling. Thank you for this. Very helpful.
