Welcome to the New Normal

The Coronavirus pandemic has altered, for many, a way of life that will never go back to normal. I imagine that even if an effective vaccine becomes available and is widely distributed, everything will look much different than what we are used to.

Jobs that were lost during the crisis will not be coming back. Opportunities that were once within one’s fingertips will simply disappear.

Even so, those who are using this pandemic to learn, adapt, and pivot will find ways to thrive. The fallout from the virus has created new technological shifts in the economy across many sectors.

Take Zoom, for example, which has experienced explosive growth since the virus’ outbreak. They are hiring positions that were hardly considered months ago, such as DevOps engineers, network administrators, and technical support specialists.

My construction company has even gotten in on the action and have submitted bid proposals that feature Zoom products. Food delivery app, DoorDash, is prepping to go public, and so are Airbnb, Roblox, and Wish, which will add billions of dollars to the economy.

In essence, the decisions you make starting today will determine what your life will look like five to ten years from now.

If you are a small business owner or have thought about going into business, this is an opportunity to find the gaps in a niche market and dominate that particular space. Regardless of your industry, now is the perfect time to deliver what end users require today and in the future.

How have you pivoted in these crazy times? I’d love to hear your thoughts.

    1. Xara, thanks for sharing. I commend you for your industry and ability to adapt. I have a friend who did something similar, and she has so much business that she has to turn down clients. Accepting that we are in a new reality while making adjustments is the key to surviving and thriving.
