5 Things I Wish I Knew Twenty Years Ago

There is no destination so enjoy the journey. There is more to life than trying to get from point A to point B. Life is best lived and experienced in the moment.

Dreams are meant to be pursued. You do not have to follow the status quo of a 9-5 existence. Allow yourself to imagine and pursue a lifestyle not defined by social conventions. The noblest, the most successful, the happiest version of you is tied to your dream.

Success is your responsibility. You are the creator of your own destiny. No one is coming to your rescue. Take intelligent risks, stay focused, and be ready to seize unexpected opportunities.

Live on 80% of your take-home income. Rainy days are inevitable, and you will need access to cash to cover emergencies and unplanned events. Having healthy cash reserves also allows you to get in early on investment opportunities.

Regard every obstacle as a teacher—as life’s reminder to adapt and pivot. Take time to evaluate your thoughts after every encounter with something that hinders your progress. See where the lessons are and make the appropriate changes. Obstacles have a way of bringing out your creativity and tenacity.
